Britons are beginning to favour renting because it suits their new flexible working lifestyle, it has been claimed.
Landlords with houses and flats to rent in Fareham, Basingstoke and other areas stand to benefit from the changing property marketplace, according to upad.co.uk.
The chief executive of the property website James Davis believes that 2010 will be a good year for landlords, with cheaper rental properties to buy and more tenants coming on to the market.
He said: "It is the smart people that are renting because it is reacting to a flexible working lifestyle.
"It gives you that flexibility to upgrade when you want and not being burdened with boiler and roof repairs and it makes sense for an easier living."
His comments follow research by the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla), which indicated that in the fourth quarter of 2009 there were more tenants than properties available on the market.
