Landlords will be required to fill Britain's housing gap as the gulf between home ownership and social housing widens, it has been claimed.
The only way of satisfying Britain's housing need in the current economic climate is through the provision of houses for rent in Bracknell, Alton and other areas, according to the British Property Federation (BPF).
However, there needs to be more political support for the private rented sector, according to Ian Fletcher, the federation's director of policy.
He explained: "The flexibility the sector provides for those who found themselves in mortgage difficulty, or having to move to find new work ... has been absolutely crucial to the well-being of our people and our economy.
"We hope whatever hue of government next takes office will step up to the mark in its support for housing and the private rented sector."
Earlier this week, the National Landlords Association (NLA) claimed that the private rented sector is no longer the ugly sister of the housing market, as it becomes increasingly more acceptable to rent.
