Landlords to benefit from improved 2010 market conditions

Landlords offering houses to rent in Surrey are set to benefit from improved 2010 market conditions following an unstable period, it has been claimed.

Data indicates that the private rented sector is recovering well following a period of instability in 2008, according to National Landlords Association policy manager Chris Norris.

He was commenting following the publication of the LSL Property Services Buy-to-Let index, which indicated that tenant arrears performed strongly in 2009, while property values also rose.

A slight drop in rental yields was additionally recorded by the index, although forecasts indicate that landlords will have higher returns in 2010, following a 7.6 per cent annual return on investment for landlords by the end of December.

Mr Norris said: "Whichever set of figures are investigated, it's now clear that the private-rented sector is recovering well from a period of instability.

"What we need to see is the opening up of credit so that those landlords wishing to expand portfolios are able to do so."ADNFCR-3036-ID-19562777-ADNFCR
