Tenants renting houses in Maidenhead are being urged to make sure they are prepared for a winter power cut by having a plan of action.
USwitch.com has urged tenants and homeowners to keep torches and spare batteries, as well as candles and matches, within easy reach in case of an emergency.
Tenants should also be careful when using alternative heating methods, such as a paraffin stove, which poses an additional risk and could result in losing a rental deposit.
Energy expert at the price comparison site Emma Bush explained that it is important consumers are "as prepared as possible for any further power cuts".
She said: "Energy companies will always try to get the supply back up and running again as quickly as possible, but in severe weather such as snow this can take time.
"If you are disabled, chronically ill, elderly or have young children in your home, let your supplier know as they may need to make you a priority."
The advice follows the announcement of a commitment by Ofgem to connect the UK's renewable electricity generation infrastructure to the national grid.
However, uSwitch.com has warned tenants and other energy bill payers that the cost of this connection could be passed to consumers through their bills.
