Tenants Guide to West London

For many, London is the centre of the universe. A bustling metropolis with excitement at every turn, it feels like a city state rather than a capital city, home to the largest everything the UK has to offer.

With theatres to rival Broadway, shopping to rival 5th Avenue, and restaurants to rival anything Paris has to offer, London is frankly in a league of its own when compared to the rest of the country and most of the world.

And when it comes to living here, there are few more desirable areas than the west of the city. Green space, beautiful architecture, culture aplenty, and good schools for the little ones, it really is the complete city living package.

So, if you’re ready to make the move to West London, here are a couple of our favourite places to call home.

Location, Location, Location

Now, before you start scrambling and digging down the side of the sofa looking for a spare couple of million, you should know you don’t need to own a yacht to live in West London. Okay, there are plenty of eye-wateringly expensive areas, including the much sought after Kensington, Notting Hill, and Knightsbridge. But there are also a few more affordable areas just a little further west, including Fulham, Shepherd’s Bush, and Ealing.

Made in Fulham

Situated a mile west of trendy Chelsea, Fulham is typically considered the affordable version of its more expensive and illustrious neighbour. If you choose to rent in this leafy part of West London, you’ll be a stone’s throw from the likes of the King’s Road (chock full of shopping) and Sloane Square, but there’s also a number of delightful shops, cafes, and delis that Fulham gets to call its own.

When it comes to commuting to and from Fulham, you’ll find plenty of buses, but only the District tube line, therefore making the journey to the North or East of the city a more protracted one than you’d perhaps like.

And for the kids, there are a number of state and independent schools to choose from in the area.

Markets, Music, and Monty Python

Just a mile west of Notting Hill, Shepherd’s Bush has all the personality with none of the pretence. And with properties available to rent for around a third of the price of the Hill, you can forgive it for appearing a little unpolished in parts.

The Bush is proud of its place in British culture, acting as the backdrop to many a famous Monty Python sketch, and The Who, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Libertines all have musical roots in the area. What’s more, the shopping here is among the best in the city, with a number of popular markets, including the permanent Shepherd’s Bush Market, and for those more mainstream needs, the massive Westfield Shopping Centre has you covered.

Commuting from Shepherd’s Bush couldn’t be easier; a plethora of bus services complement the Overground and Underground stations, meaning you can get to Oxford Circus in just over 10 minutes, and Liverpool Street Station in just over 20.

No matter your reasons for moving to West London, you’re bound to find something to suit in Fulham or Shepherd’s Bush.
